| American Rail Excursions, Inc. is proud to present
another addition to our fine family of beautifully restored private rail cars,
the business car- The Metis.
The Metis was built by Canadian Car & Foundry Company in 1928 as special
compartment-library-observation lounge car for service on the
Canadian National's "St. Lawrence Special." After Metis
ran on the CN for over 50 years, it was
modernized by them in 1953 and in 1973, when it was once again shopped and
reassigned for use by railroad officials as a CN traditional business car.
In 1981, Metis was sold to its first private
owner. In 1991, its current owner began a series of improvements
and upgrades to return the car to a classic business car complete with
observation lounge, open platform, formal dining room, master bedrooms
and section rooms. Current upgrades have made Metis fully Amtrak
compatible. It features bedrooms sleeping a total of eight
people, two full baths (two of the bedrooms share an adjoining bathroom
and shower), full dining room with seating for eight, full service
kitchen, a sitting room with a plush leather couch and additional
fifties style individual seats. A credenza has been added
with a BOSE Sound/CD/FM system plus a TV/VCR with a satellite system.
It is fully equipped with its own generator and is completely
self-contained in every way. |
Some additional functional modifications include: •Full under car freeze protection for winter use •Full retention •Electric baseboard heat throughout the car with individual thermostats for each room •Air conditioning with individual room controls •A newly constructed full-size stainless steel shower with changing area |
Featuring mahogany, with luxurious furnishings and
classic railroad fixtures, the Metis offers a five-star level of service
and comfort brought back from a bygone era. The open viewing
platform and the beautifully restored observation lounge provide luxurious
travel by day. Two large drawing rooms and two compartments,
elegantly restored, share a shower and dressing room, providing comfort
and privacy by night. A private on-board chef prepares only the
finest regional cuisine, served with fine wines in the private dining
room. The newly installed electronics credenza in the lounge
features BOSE CD/FM surround sound system plus an auto-tracking satellite
TV signal and VCR. The Metis sets the standard for discerning rail
travel. |
